Devotion - What is it ?

Hellloooooo OMG'ers

Welcome to your latest blog entry. This week we feasted on "N" food, and we had a couple of GUILTY bods this week, so, Ije and Martine, Stand up and take a bow Wink OK, so, we kicked off our session with Jo leading us in singing Praise to our Lord, and then went into our discussion led by becky. This week we discussed what devotion was, why it is important, and things that we can do as part of this. The general concensus was that Devotion is a time that we spend with God, where we can totally surrender ourselves to Him, and enjoy His prescence. A time where we can enjoy and improve our own personal relationship with our Father. We agreed that this was immensely important as God desires a close relationship with us, and by us taking the time to come before Him, we are bringing him joy. Also, by having a close relationship with Him we are easier able to determine His direction for us, and so have more fulfilled lives. We all had different things that we done during this time, but the most common things were listening to Worship music, reading the Bible, and reading Christian books. All of these are good methods, but we do want to encourage you all to find your own way here and really relish this time. So, we will finish this subject at our next session, so make sure that you are there so you don't miss out. Ok, for our next OMG, we have a Texan theme, so please bring along any Texan food, and why not dress the part as well. Come on OMG'ers, you know you want to.
Well, that wraps this edition up, so until we see you again, why not work on improving your relationship with our loving God, and reap the benefits of this.

God Bless

Bible Methodology - Part II

Welcome Back OMG'ers

Well, it seems the guilty game is working OMG'ers, and everyone made a real effort to bring M food, but there is always one, so Aaron, Marks and Spencers dont count ;-). So we kicked off the night with Becky leading us in Praise and Worship with some new songs, and then we were lead (sort of) by Mick, where we talked about a couple of aids to help us in understanding The Bible. The first one we looked at was the Vines Complete Dictionary. This is a dictionary of all of the Hebrew and Greek words, that is absolutley essential in understanding the different meaning of words in their original language as the meaning can sometimes be lost in translation. We also looked at using Study Bibles, and how these help by giving us background to each chapter, and a commentary on the verses in easy to grasp chunks. We had a great deal of dicussion on the usefullness of these, and agreed that these are very usefull, as long as they are combined with good Christian teaching, and of course your own Bible trained conscience.  Well OMG'ers, thats the end of this weeks entry. All thats left to say is a great big OMG thanks to everyone that made it, and we really hope to see you all again soon. Oh, and dont forget to keep an eye on the online planner.

So until we see you again, May Gods love warm your heart and guide your path.

Bible Methodology - Part 1

Welcome Back OMG'ers

Before we go anywhere, lets all shout a whopping great OMG "Welcome Back" to our long missing friend Becky. Its great to have you back with us and looking so well Open-mouthedWell we feasted on food beginning with "L", so we had Leeks, Lemon Cheesecake, Lasagne, and various other delicacies, and no one was guilty this week, although our new man Aaron was late, so Aaron, for being late, this week, you are still gulty Wink. Ok,so we kicked off the evening singing Praise to our God, led by Jo, and then moved into our discussion led by Rob, where we looked at the 4 different types of science involved in understanding the Bible, which are cannonology, Historical Critisism, Textural Criticism, and Biblical Theology, and then looked at using Exegesis and Hermenutics in understanding the context of each scripture.Wikipedia.org explains these really well. Suffice to say we had a really fullfilled conversation based on this, and its fair to say that our understanding was definetely increased by having this explained in such a clear way. So, we want to thank everyone that was able to make it for coming and sharing your thoughts, and say a great big OMG hello to Becky's mum who is here for a while, and was really active in our discussion. So, that's the end to this entry. We really want to thank you all for helping make OMG as successful as it is, and really look forward to spending time with you all at our next session. Until then, look to God for understanding in all things, and relish His love.

God Bless

Daniel - The Conclusion

Greetings and salutations OMG'ers

This week, we kicked off with the guilty game. check out the piccies to see who fell foul this week, mwah ha ha. So, this week we kicked off with singing Praise and Worship to our Lord with Mick and Jo, and then we went into our discussion of the final(sniff) chapter of Daniel, led by Jo. Jo helped us analyze this chapter by splitting it into Promise, warning, and responsibilty headings. So we went verse by verse and then discusssed where these should fall. A really good debate was had over these, and we all had ideas for good reasons, based on how we interpreted what we had read. We definetely had a lot of fun throughout the night, and we really hope that our visitors Kirstie and Antwi, and of course our official OMG part timers David and Cheryl, enjoyed themselves as much as we did, and that we will see you all again soon. Next week we start our new series, based on how to undertand the Bible, and we can see from our discussion this week that we all have varying ways to do this, so lets all really make an effort to attend this and really dig deep into this topic. So, that's the end of this edition. Please leave a comment and let us know your thoughts about OMG,we always welcome feedback.
So, until we see you again, Trust in Gods promise for You.

Daniel - We've almost finished :-(

Helllloooooooooo all you OMG'ers out there

Welcome to the latest installment of your blog. This week saw the introduction of a new part of our OMG schedule. The name and shame game. Basically, whoever brings something that does not fit our weekly theme (which was "J" this week), is found guilty, and is named and shamed here. So, this week, we are naming and shaming Rob, Chris, and Gem. Lets see how any people are found guilty next week.
So, this week we kicked off our night with some Praise and Worship led by Chris and Jo, and then we went into our discussion based on Daniel 10, and v1-19 of chapter 11. This week we saw that spiritual warfare is real and that the enemy has great power, but that God has far more, and how important that it is for us to play our part in bringing Victory for Gods Kingdom through Prayer and Fasting. This also highlighted why we do not always receive answers when we want to, and helped us to appreciate the bigger picture in the world that we inhabit. In chapter 11 we found out the details of 2 of the visions that Daniel interpreted, and saw how all of this has proven to have happened, so this is a clear gift from our God to show that He has fulfilled his promises of the past, so we can have steadfast assurance that He will fulfill His promises that relate to our future. Praise God for such powerful testimony of His Greatness OMG'ers. He is soooooo worthy.
We would also like to extend a great big OMG welcome out to Aaron, who will be joing us for this quarter. Lets all join in and make sure that he gets a real vision of the OMG experience Wink
So, that wraps this weeks edition up. We really look forward to seeing more of you next week, and until then, have a blessed week, and keep God as the central focus of your life.

God Bless

Daniel - The Story So Far

Welcome to YOUR blog, OMG'ers

This week we would like to start off with giving a great big OMG welcome to our new Visitors, Lin and Crystel. We really hope you enjoyed your visit and that you will come and see us again soon. So, we feasted on food from the letter "I", and then Rob stepped up to lead us in singing Praise to our God in readyness for our spiritual feast, led by Jo. This week Jo gave us all different questions to see if we can remember what we have covered, and well done OMG'ers, we done pretty well. Jo also put together a table for us to show the flow of prophecy throughout the book which was really helpful to show the consistency through the various prophecies (see notification email). So, we want to say a great big OMG thanks to everyone that came and participated, and helped make it such a great evening.
Until we see you again, focus on God, and trust in His Love.

God Bless

Daniel 5 - The Writing on The Wall

Greetings OMG'ers

Welcome one and all to the latest installment of your OMG blog. The best place to find out about all that is going on in the world of OMG. This week our food theme was the letter G, so we feasted on Grilled chicken, Grapes, and Galaxy, yummy. We then had our own version of the writing on the wall to get us ready for God and then Mick led us in singing Praise to our Lord. We then moved into OMG discussion time led by Dave. Here we learnt how God punished King Belshazzar as he failed to learn from the lessons that were taught to his father King Nebuchadnezzer and abused God by using the utensils taken from Gods temple in Jerusalem for a party that he held for the important people in his Kingdom. Again we see Gods awesome power and confirmation that He will act against those that stand against Him. We can really draw encouragement from this, and we hope that everyone that joined us was able to feel this. Well, this week was really special. It is clear to see that God is blessing OMG. You could really feel Gods Spirit during Praise and Worship, and there was a real joy in learning during the discussion, so we really praise God for His undeserved love for us all, and thank Him so much for looking after our little OMG.

Daniel 4 - The Tree

Well Hello there OMG'ers

It's great to have you back here. Well, at our last OMG we feasted on food of an Indian origin, so we all had our fill of 3 colour rice, poppadums, and all sorts of sweet things. So, Chris helped us to prepare our hearts for Gods word by leading us in singing songs of Praise and Worship. Thanks for this mate. Mick then led us in our discussion based on Daniel chapter 4.This week we learnt that God is far more powerful than anyone, and that He will judge those who go against Him. We also learnt that forgiveness is an essential quality that we must all really work on. Yet again we can see so much for us in just a single chapter, and there is still far more to come, so make sure that you make it to our next session on Friday night at 7:30.Well, that's it for now OMG'ers, so until we see you again, keep on trusting in God and look after yourselves.

Daniel 3

Willkommen OMG'ers

Well, here it is. The update that you have been waiting for all week. This week we feasted on Chinese inspired food so had chinese buns, miso soup and prawn crackers galore. Once we had eaten as usual Dave turned up, and then we kicked off the evening by singing praise to our Lord led by Mick, and we were then takon on our journey through Daniel chapter 3 by Jo. This week we looked at how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were so confident in God that they defied King Nebuchadnezzer and refused to compromise their faith despite knowing that they would be lobbed into a furnace if they did not comply. And what happened, they were thrown in, and the King saw 4 people in there, not the 3 of them. This really showed the King that God is far more powerful than he was, and this whole event proved a tremendous witness to God's glory. So, what can we take away from this to apply in our lives ? How about this, there are times when our faith will be tested, probably not in the same way, but tests there will be. So, if God saved the guys from the furnace for staying true to Him, surely He will do the same for us if we also hold firm to Him. So, that wraps this weeks edition up. We would love to say a great big OMG thanks to all 8 peeps that turned up this week, and we would like to extend a great big OMG hello out to Lily, the new flatmate at Denyer House from Germany who will be here for a couple of months. Thanks for joining us for a while last night, and it would be great to see more of you while you are here.

So, until we see you again, we bid you farewell, and offer a prayer of blessings for you all.

OMG - Daniel 2

Welcome back OMG'ers

Well, this week 5 of us got together to enjoy a  night of God and laughter. On top of all of that, this was the first week that the guys outnumbered the girls by any decent figure. Hey hey, keep it up lads. So,we feasted on Pitta bread, soup and chicken, and then moved into some Praise and Worship led by our outnumbered Jo. We then went into our discussion of Daniel 2 with Mick. This week we learnt from Daniels example that no matter what is thrown at us, we should always turn to God and our Christian Family, and find strength in our faith. God can and will bring us through all trials. We just need to be confident in this promise. The book of Daniel is full of great examples for us. Lets really look forward to the next installment to see what other Gems await us.

So OMG'ers, until we meet again, which we hope will be very soon, we bid you adios.

Intoducing Daniel

Helloooooo OMG'ers

Welcome back to your blog. The best place to find out what has been going on in the world of OMG. This week we munched on Indian food, and we want to thank all those that contributed to this. Well, it is fair to say that this week we had a few technical difficulties. Our projector conked out twice, and our musician was late, but did we let that ruin the evening ? of course not. This is OMG and together we can get through anything. So Jo stepped in and we went old school with a print out on the wall for our Praise and Worship, and then we read the first chapter of Daniel, followed by a pub quiz style questions round. We looked at how the examples of Daniel and his companions reflect in the world today, and how they can directly affect us. We had a really good discussion on this, and this definetely showed us that this is a book that is extremely relevant in the here and now. So, we would like to thank our Visitors, David and Cheryl from the Reading group, for coming to see us. We hope your enjoyed your time with us. We also wish Bon-Voyage to 2 of our friends who have left us this week. Becky who has gone to America to be with her parents for 2 months, and Trouble, whoops I mean Ije, who is off to Germany for a month to work on her language skills. We really want to wish you both the greatest success in your trips, pray they are filled with Gods blessings, and are looking forward to having you home again.
So, until next time OMG'ers, trust in the Lord in all that you do, and so keep your path straight and true.
God Bless

Romans 13 and 14

Salem OMG'ers

Welcome to your latest OMG blog installment. This week 12 of us invaded Jo and Beckys place and feasted on Egyptian cuisine as directed by Ashraf, our very own resident Egyptian. A great big OMG thanks goes out to everyone that contributed to this. So, Jo was in the chair this week and we started off with a warm up of introductions and coming up with something Egyptian. Can you guess how many peeps tried to wimp out by saying they know someone that's Egyptian ? Anyhooo, Becky then led us in Praise and Worship, and this week the Spirit was definetely there in abundance would you not agree OMG'ers. We then moved into our discussion on Romans chapters 13 and 14 with Mick. This week we were split into teams, read each chapter, and were then hit with rapid fire questions. This really brought out the competitive streak in some of us, and good laughs were had by all. The important thing that we took from this though is that our true guide on what is right and wrong should be based on our Bible trained conscience, and our love of our neighbour. If we rely on these, and continuously develop our relationship with our most worthy God, we will never go far wrong. So, a whopping great OMG thankyou goes out to everyone that attended this week, and a special thankyou to our new visitor Nora. We really hope that you enjoyed yourself, and would love to have you join us again.
So, until we meet again OMG'ers, stay close to The Lord, and find strength in His love.

Romans 7 and 8

G'day OMG'ers

Can you guess what our theme was for this week ? Did someone say Chinese ? That's next week. This week we belatedly celebrated Australia Day by singing and listening to the Aussie national Anthem and through our food, so we had pies, sausage rolls, and shed loads of cakes Open-mouthed. A great Big OMG thanks goes out to everyone that contributed to this. This week Gem was in the chair and taught us a handy little rhyme to remember the first 5 books of the New Testament. Matthew,Mark, Luke and John,Acts and Romans follow on. So there you go, no excuses for not knowing where they are anymore. So, once we had filled our bellies, we moved over the real food, that being the Spiritual feast that awaited us. This week Mick and Jo led us in singing Praise to our God, finishing with a very funky version of Awesome God. We then moved into our discussion led by David, and we have to say a great big OMG well done for all his efforts. David helped us to understand that because of the sacrifice of Jesus, we are no longer bound by the old testament law. Jesus's life example has replaced the old law to guide us on how we should be.  In fact, the only way to find favour in Gods eyes is through faith in Christ. The aim is to work on our hearts and minds as these are the true guide to the people who we are, not what we choose to display on the outside. We would like to thank everyone that made it last night, and we send an OMG thanks out to Zaldy who visited us this week from the Filipino group. We also welcome the return of Emilia.  Next week we are continuing our exploration of Romans, so if you want to stay ahead of the game, why not have a read of chapters 9 and 10 before next Friday.
While you are here OMG'ers, why not leave a comment and let us know what you think ? Come on, we dare you Wink
So friends, until we see you next, remember to trust in God and lay your burdens on Him. He will make your path straight.

Romans 5-6

Hellloooooooo OMG'ers

Welcome to the latest installment of your blog. This week we had a rather odd food theme, beans and peas, but hey where peeps creative or what. We had beans with ginger and beans with chilli, pea pancakes, and pasta dishes. Yum yum. So, this week we kicked things off with Jo leading us in a game of choice. We had 2 options on a card, and we then needed to choose which one the person next to us would go for and explain why. Needless to say this produced a lot of giggles. We then got our hearts and minds ready by singing to our Lord with the help of Becky and Gem, followed by our discussion led by Becky. This week we were continuing our journey into the book of Romans, and covered chapters 5 and 6. Here we see comparisons between Jesus and Adam, the first man. We also looked into how we are changed by the gift of Christ's sacrifice. We learnt that through His sacrifice, Jesus brought us release from the sin that Adam brought into the world, and so gives us our lives back. We also saw how our struggles produce hope, and tha thope will not dissapoint us as God loves us so much that he he sent the Holy Spirit to enter our hearts as a gift to us. The book of Romans is packed full of inspiring information that can really help us all to understand our lives, and offer encouragement to stay strong in The Lord. By studying this together we can really benefit from the spiritual food that has been left for us by our Creator, and we really hope that you will be able to make as many of these sessions as possible and really enjoy what is being presented.
So OMG'ers, watch out for the text for our next session, have a great week, and dont forget to read Romans 7-8 so you are ready for our next discussion. While you are here, why not leave a comment as well as let us know what you think, or if you would like to make any suggestions. These are always most welcome.

Romans - Episode 2

Welcome back OMG'ers

This week we were at Jo at Beckys pad again, so a great big OMG thanks goes out to them for being such gracious hosts. This week we dined on Turkish food, although I have to say apart from pitta bread, I couldn't really see the connection, but hey, it was all good. Lets give a great big OMG thanks to everyone that contributed to this. So, this week we had Ije chairing, and she started us off with her version of taboo which got everyone going, and then we moved into offering praise to our God though with our voices as Jo led us in Praise and Worship to help draw us closer to our Father and His Spirit. Isn't Jo getting better with the guitar OMG'ers Open-mouthed We then entered our discussion of Romans, chapters 3 and 4, led by Mick. There were some really good comments brought out of our reading, such as we need to accept that we are sinners in the eyes of God, and that we should not take Gods grace for granted. The key to these 2 chapters however is that righteousness is not something that we can earn. We can only become righteousness through the Grace of God, and our faith in Christ and His act of redemption for all of humanity on the Cross. This is a gift given freely by our Lord. Nothing we do can ever earn us redemption. Our loving Good knows this and allowed His Son, Jesus Christ, to die and pay atonement for each and every one of us. How truly awesome and act of Love is that ?  We finished on a footnote from study Bible based on Chapter 4:21 that tells us that Abraham, the father of many nations, led a life marked with mistakes, sins, and failures, just like ours. Yet he overcame these by never douting Gods promises, and so become a greatly gifted man of God. Abraham acheived victory through faith, despite being just like us. So this means there is nothing stopping us from doing the same in our own lives. So, please join us next week to share in this great book, and find out first hand just how important this is for each and every one of us in the here and now.

Well OMG'ers, keep an eye open for the OMG text to let you know where we are next, have a great, God filled week, and don't forget to Read chapters 5 and 6 of Romans in preparation.

Until we see you all again, God Bless

The First OMG of 2008

Happy New Year OMG'ers

Well, well, a whole new year has been presented for us to get our spiritual teeth into, and into it we did. We kicked off the new OMG season at Jo and Becky's place (thanks peeps) with 12 people in attendance. So a great big OMG thanks goes out to everyone that made it. We started off by dining on various dishes of noodlish origin (apparently)Wink. We then went straight into singing our hearts out in Praise to God with Becky and Mick, and moved into our discussion led by Jo. We are starting off this season by taking a look at the book of Romans, and how it is applicable to us in the modern world. A bit of background for those that aren't aware. The book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul to the Christians in Rome, and was written to help those there understand forgivess, and to show just how important faith is in being a Christian. In the 1st 2 chapters Paul helps us to understand that the gospel is for all, both the Jews and Gentiles (i.e us). He also shows us that it is important that our actions portray our faith, and that once we know the law, we are bound by this. In chapter 2, V 28-29, Paul also refers to circumcision of the heart, and internal action, that is truly representive of being a Jew, so highlighting that physical rituals are secondary to our inner actions. We had a really good discussion on the scriptures that we read, and thanks all of you that commented for bringing your thoughts to the group and making this such an interesting evening.
The book of Romans is a very interesting book that is packed full of gems for us to discover. We really look forward to sharing more of this with you in the coming weeks.

So, until we see you again, Good bye, and God Bless
